Cranial |
Cranial osteopathy is a different methodology and technique, which uses cranial rhythms for evaluation. These rhythms, some times referred to as pulses, were first described by Dr William Garner Sutherland in the early 1900s and can be felt in other parts of the body. They are quite distinct from arterial pulses and are of such small amplitude that a highly developed sense of touch is required to detect them. The Osteopath assesses the quantity and quality of the pulses as they indicate what stresses and strains the body is under. Some say that it is a lack of motility in the cranial sutures that is responsible for the symptoms. Specific holds and an almost imperceptible pressure from the hands are required to improve the motility. The immediate effect of treatment differs between patients. Some feel relaxed and tired, due to the reduction of tension, while others feel exhilarated. In my practice cranial osteopathy has been of benefit in the relief of P.M.T. and menopausal symptoms, stress, eczema and M.E. |
